A couple weeks ago I flew to NYC for a long weekend. An artist I really admire invited me and I could not pass up the opportunity. I was taken to some fantastic openings, private collections and parties. Fashion observation; men dress REALLY well these days and art people observation; those I met were super down to earth, funny, kind and humble.
I experienced and learned a lot in three days. My new artist friend gave me major shit for not getting out there more often and working it. He gave me a real kick in the ass about becoming a successful artist which I needed. Below are some of the highlights of day one….
at the opening for Ryan McGinnes at Gering and Lopez Gallery, a member of the Metropolitan Opera performed a piece inspired by McGinnes’ work.
WHY WOMEN LIKE TO BUY TEXTILES THAT FEEL NICE, 201O by Olaf Nicolai at Glaerie Eigen+Art
James Casebere. Big time influence while in art school studying constructed photography.
Garth Weiser at Casey Kaplan Gallery. Garth lives in Montana. I am a fan. favorite piece in the fair.
Jennifer Rubell The piece that struck me the most. For better or worse. I am not sure.
I ran into the art adviser for Deutsche Bank London. They are the big sponsor and bought three of my photographs after graduate school. So, we were kindly invited into the VIP lounge which was fun to see. My sister was thrilled about the candy cart.
