I attended a panel discussion on “emerging photographers” during the AIPAD photo fair in NYC. The panelists included, Sarah Meister, curator, Department of Photography, The Museum of Modern Art; and Christopher Phillips, curator, International Center for Photography, New York; and Joshua Chuang, assistant curator, photography, Yale University Art Gallery.
The curators admitted not liking the term emerging as many of the artists had been working for years and years. They chose artists they had personally discovered and found compelling in the last year.
Those chosen were: (names below photos with links if the image compels) My personal favorites are Anthony Hernandez and Ellad Lasry.
